I cannot thank you enough. You go above and beyond my expectations, be it for Knowledge and Passion for your sport or simply working so hard to teach.
I have learned so much on and off the water with you. Your infectious love of Fly Fishing creates two questions for every one answered.
Not a bad thing.

I just wanted to thank you very much for Callum’s lesson. He enjoyed himself so much and learnt more than he can remember!!
Robbie has been of considerable help to the Tweed Foundation and has assisted us with many aspects of our studies into the Whiteadder Trout and Grayling, always contributing enthusiasm and support as well as good old fashioned hard work. He has assisted with Invertebrate Sampling, Electro Fishing and Stream Renovation. We have no doubt that the health of the Whiteadder’s fish populations are of great importance to him.
His considerable fishing skills and experience have proven particularly useful for our tagging and scale sampling studies where angling is the only method which can be used to catch fish. Without Robbie’s ability to catch fish in even the toughest conditions our sample size for such studies would be considerably smaller.

A big thank you for the one to one tuition you gave me, invaluable in getting me off to a good start, and already I can see an improvement in my skills. Having only just started to fish recently, we began with a casting lesson, and then spent 4 hours on the River Whiteadder, concentrating on up stream fishing techniques. We covered Czech, French and European nymphing, then dry and wet fly methods. This produced good results , and I caught several brown trout.
Your knowledge of the rivers gave me a good insight into the importance of river craft. I am now more able to ‘read’ the river. You also introduced me to entomology, essential when trying to match the fly to the hatch. We then spent half a day at Coldingham Loch boat fishing, learning boat handling skills, fishing from an anchored boat and also drifting. We fished with both floating and sinking lines, different types of leaders and fly patterns. Again this produced good results, catching 3 rainbow trout.
Once I have had time to practice, I will be back to learn more from you.
Hi Gareth & Carmel ,
I would like to thank you for a fantastic welcome and all the help and advice. A very enjoyable stay.
I would also like to mention Robbie who I asked to coach me on my fly fishing skills ( limited)
He talked, showed me tackle, and tactics.
He was able to improve my fishing greatly from not knowing what tactics to use when the fishing was hard to catching 11 rainbows in one day as well as missing many takes. So thank you Robbie.
You can teach an old dog new tricks

Thank-you for your generous offer to serve as our coach for the WFFC in Norway next summer. I’m very excited and sincerely looking forward to the time that we’ll be spending together in Norway (both on and off the water). I’m certain that your years of coaching and experiences in the world of competitive fly fishing will be invaluable for our team’s efforts at Norway’s WFFC, and ultimately, the key to our success. Thanks again for stepping forward and being such a loyal friend to the Canadian teams!
